Government Affairs
OverviewGovernment affairs, advocacy or “lobbying” are usually considered to be dirty words. But the fact of the matter is that government relations affect both your patients and the stability of your profession. With a strong government relations program, HCMA will increase both membership and its voice.
HCMA is actively involved in legislation at the federal, state and local levels. The association also works with the Connecticut State Medical Society to create awareness of physician concerns at the state capital level. HCMA’s structure provides an extraordinary opportunity to affect policy and regulatory decisions at the local and state levels.
As a physician, you are in a unique position to offer advice to lawmakers about specific legislation affecting the medical profession. You can also help increase patient access to the important services that physicians provide. It is not only the right thing to do so that your patients’ interests are best served, but it is also good for the stability of the medical profession.
